In March 2026, two people in Kanpur’s Naubasta area allegedly tied a live dog with a rope, dragged it about 20 metres, and threw it into a canal, causing its death.

What happened

Times of India reported that CCTV captured the dog being tied, dragged and thrown into the canal.

A complaint was filed by Mayank Tripathi of Ummeed Ek Kiran, and police said they were identifying the accused through CCTV.

One person seen in the viral video was reported as Jitendra Singh of Hanspuram.

The act involved deliberate restraint, dragging and abandonment in water, resulting in death.
