On May 12, 2025, several pigeons were found motionless on a stone wall in the Phase II car park of Tsuen King Garden, Tsuen Wan. When residents looked closer, they found what appeared to be strong glue or rat glue on the wall; the pigeons’ feet and feathers were stuck, leaving them unable to free themselves.

They were not simply perched on the wall; they were stuck there

Hong Kong Animal Post, republished by Yahoo News, reported that resident Ms. Ho learned from a residents’ group in the evening that several pigeons were stuck by glue. She went to the scene and found six pigeons trapped, then contacted volunteers to help rescue them. Two piles of feathers were also left behind, suggesting at least some birds may have been injured while struggling. HK01 and on.cc reported at least four pigeons stuck to the wall, and police classified the case as cruelty to animals.

HK01 quoted the SPCA as saying it was notified by police and assisted with follow-up. Before an inspector arrived, three relevant birds had been removed from the wall by volunteers and placed in separate paper bags. The SPCA said the birds’ feathers were stuck and injury was suspected, and advised avoiding any strong glue outdoors to prevent animals from falling into it and being hurt.

Even while cause remains under investigation, preventing animal suffering is the minimum line

Public reports still left the source and purpose of the glue under investigation. HK01 noted that police asked car-park staff but could not determine why the glue had appeared or what it was for. The SPCA also said its records had not shown previous use of glue in the area to catch birds or commit cruelty. This archive therefore does not state as fact who deliberately applied the glue.

But uncertainty over the responsible person does not make the harm minor. Whether it was malicious glue, negligent management or outdoor work without safeguards, the result was living birds stuck to a wall, where every struggle could tear feathers and flesh. Materials used in public urban space should never push animals into such slow, frightened and helpless pain.
