In September 2024, the death of an Alaskan dog named Panghu after adoption in Shenzhen drew wide public attention. Hong Kong Animal Post, Star Headline and Ta Kung Wen Wei reported that online posts alleged Panghu had been handed to a couple through an adoption activity and later died with severe injuries. Public images also showed adoption-promotion scenes. The Chinese University of Hong Kong responded online that it had noticed a suspected animal-abuse incident, attached great importance to it and would investigate according to procedures.

From adoption to death

Public reports say Panghu was an Alaskan dog. Adoption should have meant care and companionship, yet the dog died soon after being adopted. Media reports relayed online allegations of severe injuries and blood around the mouth.

This archive records the boundary: the death and public allegations were reported by multiple platforms, while the exact acts, direct responsibility and final outcome depend on formal investigation.

A betrayed adoption relationship

Images in reports show adoption-promotion wording about love, adoption and lawful dog registration. That scene stands in painful contrast to Panghu’s death.

Adoption should move an animal toward stable life. If that trust is abused, the harm damages not only one animal but also the fragile trust around rescue and adoption.

University response and public questions

Reports said one alleged person was linked online to the Chinese University of Hong Kong. CUHK responded that it took the suspected animal-abuse incident seriously and would handle it according to procedures.

This site does not state unconfirmed personal identity, address or family background as fact. The public university response and calls for transparency are recorded as part of the aftermath.

Panghu should be remembered

Panghu was not merely an online label. The dog had a name, photos, and a moment of being presented for adoption with hope of a better life.

This file records that life and the responsibility that adoption must carry.
