In August 2025, a disturbing high-rise food-throwing suspected poisoning took place in a residential compound in Chongzuo, Guangxi. Public reports said that around 10:30 p.m. on August 21, someone threw a bag of food from a high floor near Building 61. The bag contained pork cracklings and pork liver; after it scattered on the lawn, several pet dogs mistook it for food and later died.

A bag of food falling in the night

Resident Ms. Lu recalled that she was walking her shepherd dog on the lawn when she heard a sudden sound and found a bag of food had fallen from above, nearly hitting her. After the pork cracklings spread across the grass, her dog and a neighbor’s small dog licked some of it.

In the early hours of August 22, a neighbor said in the owners’ group that a golden retriever had suddenly gone frantic, convulsed and died. Around 4 a.m., Ms. Lu’s shepherd dog showed similar symptoms, running wildly and convulsing before dying in just over ten minutes. Another resident in the same building said his dog showed the same symptoms and died after licking something on the lawn on August 23.

Property cleanup and police case filing

A property staff member told media that after receiving complaints on August 22, staff cleaned up pork cracklings and chopped meat from the lawn and kept the food for police investigation. By the time of reporting, three households had said their dogs died after licking food on the grass.

Chengnan Police Station in Chongzuo told Jimu News it had received reports from several residents, that another similar incident occurred in the jurisdiction on August 23, and that police had opened a case. Because the incident happened at night and there was no high-level camera coverage, only ground cameras caught an object falling from above, making the person who threw the food hard to identify at that stage.

More than pet harm

Whatever the final toxicology result and responsibility finding may be, throwing unknown food from height into a public lawn already transferred danger to defenseless animals and residents. A lawn is a place touched by dogs, children and neighbors; if poison was present, the threat would not stop at one dog.

Pet dogs cannot understand human resentment, conflict or malice. They only played, sniffed and licked as usual, then suffered violent pain and died in the night. This archive records them so the dogs who died are not reduced to a brief news item, and so public communities remember that poisoning and high-rise throwing can never be accepted as ways to resolve any dispute.
