Pingdingshan, Henan: man accused of long-term cat abuse and sharing videos

In April 2026, Ma, a man from Pingdingshan, Henan, was accused of torturing and killing multiple cats and was related to overseas cat abuse communities. TVB News reported that the man involved was suspected of being ordered by the "financier" to torture and kill cats for a long time and filmed them and put them in the group. It is estimated that more than 1,500 cats have been abused since 2024. The local police said that the man involved was administratively detained for ten days. Relevant figures and statements such as "core members of the community" mainly come from media reports and volunteer clues. This site does not write the final confirmation of the police.

Many stray cats were tortured and killed and volunteers reported the case
In April 2026, Ma, a man from Pingdingshan, Henan, was accused of torturing and killing multiple cats and filming and disseminating the video, which attracted widespread attention. TVB News reported that since February 2026, stray cats have been tortured and killed in many communities in Pingdingshan City, Henan Province. The report also said that the man involved was suspected of being instructed by the "financier" to torture and kill cats for a long time and put the images into the group. Media reports mentioned that more than 1,500 cats have been abused since 2024. Local police said the man involved was placed in administrative detention for ten days.
The Paper reprinted a Red Star News report saying that Ma was sent to the local police station for allegedly abusing and killing cats for a long time and recording and disseminating related videos for profit. The report quoted the whistleblower Ms. Zhang as saying that from February to April 2026, eight to ten cat abuse incidents had occurred in surrounding communities.
About "1500" and the boundaries of online communities
The report mentioned that volunteers obtained a 16G piece of information from overseas caring people, most of which were cat abuse videos. Preliminary statistics indicate that more than 1,500 cats were tortured and killed in four years. By comparing the victim cat's characteristics, environmental background, etc., the volunteers believed that Ma was highly consistent with the administrators in the community.
These statements indicate that the case may not be just a single injury, but related to the spread of cat abuse images and the black industry community; however, public reports also show that police investigation and evidence collection are still ongoing. Therefore, this website will write “more than 1,500”, “financiers”, “core members of the community” and other contents as media reports and volunteer clues, and will not write them as final confirmation by the police.
Abandoned kittens and long-lost cats
China News Weekly and other reports also mentioned that in the early morning of April 19, patrol volunteers found a severely injured kitten in a trash can in a residential building on Jiulishan Street; the volunteers said that after monitoring and verification, the person who discarded the cat was Ma, a resident of the community.
The report also stated that the little kitten was adopted by Ma from an old man under the guise of "loving adoption"; the old man and his friends had previously sent more than 20 kittens to Ma for adoption, but its current whereabouts are unclear. Turning the adoption channel into a portal of harm is a double betrayal of the trust of rescuers and the lives of animals.
Why record
Even if only the parts that have been publicly reported are recorded, this incident has shown serious inhumanity: stray cats, kittens and adopted cats may become the targets of violent images; harmful behaviors may also be spread by groups, rewarded, and shown off.
Turning the deaths of weak animals into video material and group entertainment is in itself a trampling of life. Cats found in trash cans, parking lots, balconies or kitchens should not be just screenshots and numbers, they are concrete victims.
