Four dogs suspected poisoned to death and two missing in Tin Sam Village, Kwu Tung, Hong Kong
On the morning of April 4, 2025, a dog owner near Kwu Tung Reservoir on Kwu Tung South Road, Sheung Shui, Hong Kong, found four of his more than ten dogs dead and two missing when he was about to feed them. HK01 and Wen Wei Po reported that the dead dogs had foamed at the mouth. Police classified the case as cruelty to animals and referred it to the Border District crime investigation team; the SPCA collected the four bodies for later examination by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.
Before the morning feeding, four dogs had already fallen
HK01 reported that at 8:02 a.m. on April 4, police received a report from a man near Kwu Tung Reservoir. He said that when he got up to feed his dogs, four were dead and two were missing. Wen Wei Po reported that the four dead village dogs included three females and one puppy, and that the case was considered suspicious and handled as cruelty to animals.
The owner, surnamed Chan, told media he had lived there for about twenty years and kept more than ten dogs. He had heard no barking or unusual noise before the incident. One dog was found outside and three died indoors. For someone who had lived with these dogs for years, this was not only a loss of property, but a brutal severing of lives.
SPCA collected the bodies and police followed up
The SPCA said inspectors arrived at police request and found two adult dogs and two puppies dead, with no obvious external wounds and no microchips. The bodies were kept at the Tsing Yi center and were to be sent to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for examination.
The factual boundary is clear: public reports confirm four dead dogs, two missing dogs and a police cruelty-to-animals investigation. The specific poison, method and perpetrator still require investigation or test results.
Old wounds had not faded before a new case arrived
The owner told media that 22 dogs had been poisoned in July of the previous year, and that a Labrador had previously been cut on the neck near the reservoir, returned home injured and later died. HK01 reviewed that in February 2021, a seven-year-old black Labrador in Tin Sam Village suffered an 18-centimeter neck wound and died after two hours of rescue; police also classified that case as cruelty to animals.
When dogs in the same area are repeatedly poisoned or attacked with blades, public concern is not limited to one morning. The unanswered question is why these animals have long remained exposed to similar risks.
Why this suspected poisoning is recorded
Poisoning is a particularly cowardly form of harm. It avoids facing the animal, gives no chance to escape or seek help, and once poison enters a public or semi-public space, it may endanger other dogs, wildlife and people.
Disliking dogs, opposing free roaming, or worrying about hygiene and noise cannot justify killing. Community conflict should be addressed through management, communication, separation and responsible keeping, not by leaving innocent animals to die in pain. Four deaths and two disappearances deserve a record, and deserve continued questions.
