Nanjing pet-shop case: eleven-year-old boy lured and harmed a kitten

On October 18, 2020, an eleven-year-old boy in Nanjing, Jiangsu repeatedly lured and harassed a kitten at a pet shop entrance. A later public review said he led the kitten to the doorway, trapped her with the door gap and then chased and beat her outside for about half an hour. Long-visible self-media records added that he shook the door handle, tried to grab the kitten and used sausage to lure her close before using a small knife.

A kitten lured to the doorway
Fujian Daily’s review recorded that on October 18, 2020, an eleven-year-old boy in Nanjing lured a pet-shop kitten to the door, trapped her with the door gap and then chased and beat her outside for about half an hour.
A Zhihu column and related reposts preserved additional details: the boy shook the door handle, tried to reach inside for the kitten, used sausage to lure her close and then used a small knife toward her.

The surveillance images do not show play
Public stills show the boy close to the shop entrance and attacking or harassing the kitten inside. Another still shows the kitten after being drawn out and beaten.
These were not normal child-animal interactions. They show luring, control and deliberate harm.
A minor is not the same as no responsibility
Because the person involved was a minor, this archive does not record his name, school, address or family identity, and does not encourage doxxing or revenge.
But protecting a minor cannot mean excusing harm. Guardians, schools and society must treat such behavior as a serious warning requiring correction, education and, where needed, psychological intervention.
Small animals are not emotional outlets
The kitten was caught between the inside and outside of a door, unable to understand why the person outside was shaking the handle, luring, trapping and striking her.
Recording this case is a reminder that kindness to living beings is not decorative morality for later adulthood. It is a boundary that must be taught early.
