On August 27, 2023, online users reported that a Nanyang Institute of Technology student had posted a cat-abuse video and described the process in writing. On August 28, the school said preliminary checks found that the video was posted by Li Moumou, a student in the 2020 cohort. On September 2, the school announced that Li had abused a cat, posted the video online, made improper remarks, and was expelled under school rules.

Harm recorded, described and circulated

This was not only a disciplinary matter. Public reports referred not just to the video itself, but also to a written description of the abuse. Recording and circulating the harm turned the animal's suffering into material for display, stimulation or amusement.

This archive does not expand unverified personal information or use insults. But the conduct itself can be judged plainly: intentionally harming a defenseless animal, recording the process and publishing it shows contempt for life.

A visible institutional consequence

The school issued two notices, moving from preliminary verification to expulsion. That gave the case a relatively clear public outcome.

The result cannot erase the animal's suffering, but it shows that public records, social attention and institutional investigation can create real consequences for cruelty.
