Resident Zhang Jing told China Youth Daily that since November 2024 she had repeatedly found cat bodies in the park’s green areas and along the riverside walkway, roughly counting more than forty.

On March 25, the reporter visited the green belt beside Youyi River and found strong odors, newly covered soil mounds and partly exposed cat bodies.

Reports by residents and a police case

Residents said the abnormal situation had not appeared only once. Some said they had seen abused cat bodies in June 2024, and later incidents became increasingly cruel.

The report said residents had called police more than once. A Duhang police officer told the reporter that police had filed the case and were investigating months of suspected cat abuse in and around the park.

Difficult evidence is not a reason for silence

Police noted that the riverside area was remote and lacked cameras, so evidence had to be checked through park and road surveillance. That difficulty is real, but it should not make the dead animals disappear from memory.
