Story

Mrs. Chippy lived aboard Endurance as Harry McNish’s ship cat and was remembered by the crew.

After the ship was crushed, Shackleton ordered animals unlikely to survive killed, a decision that haunted McNish.

Mrs. Chippy is archived because expedition history should also remember the animals carried into human danger.
