Lex was a U.S. Marine Corps German Shepherd wounded in the 2007 Iraq attack that killed his handler Dustin J. Lee; he later received early retirement and was adopted by Lee’s family.

Story

Lex and Dustin J. Lee served together as an explosive-detection and patrol team in Iraq before the 2007 rocket attack that killed Lee and wounded Lex.

Lex refused to leave Lee’s side, later recovered, and was granted early retirement so Lee’s family could adopt him.

Lex is archived because the story preserves partnership, injury, grief and the responsibility owed to working dogs after service.
