Lex and Dustin J. Lee served together as an explosive-detection and patrol team in Iraq before the 2007 rocket attack that killed Lee and wounded Lex.
Lex refused to leave Lee’s side, later recovered, and was granted early retirement so Lee’s family could adopt him.
