Around November 2023, a man surnamed Wang in Rudong, Jiangsu, repeatedly rode a motorcycle through Xinguang, Caiqiao, Shiping and nearby areas, using a poison known as “Sanbudao” to kill 19 stray dogs. He sold 11 of them to a braised-meat shop operator and made 3,200 yuan. Police arrested him on November 17, 2023, and seized eight dead dogs waiting to be sold; tests found cyanide in their stomachs.

Poisoned stray dogs treated as goods

Public reports said Wang had obtained the poison after meeting a dog buyer in 2022. The dogs were not lost in a natural accident. They were deliberately poisoned, collected and sold. The cruelty was tied directly to profit.

Criminal and public-interest responsibility

Rudong Court held that Wang had mixed toxic and harmful non-food substances into food for production and sale, constituting the crime of producing and selling toxic and harmful food. He was sentenced to nine months in prison and fined 10,000 yuan.

The legal focus is food safety and public interest, but at the front of the chain were 19 poisoned stray dogs. This archive records them because “poisoned dog meat” is not an abstract commodity; it begins with repeated intentional killing.
