The body was removed and privately handled

The company said the staff thought it was a dead stray dog and privately handled the remains. It expressed regret and said the improper conduct would be dealt with seriously. It did not directly answer whether the dog had been cooked and eaten.

Dignity should not be stripped away after death

For the owner, the search and reward ended with news that the body had been privately handled. The injury fell on the animal and also on the person who loved it. A companion animal’s death should trigger identification, notification, preservation and return procedures.

Institutional and industry responsibility cannot be pushed aside

The boarding center apologized and admitted serious management failure. Highway staff said they believed the dog was a dead stray. Neither explanation brings Wuyiyi back or makes private handling acceptable.

Shenzhen bans eating cats and dogs. Even without expanding beyond public reports on whether eating occurred, the private handling of the body shows a serious gap in identifying companion animals and handling remains.
